RIT (Rotman Interactive Trader) is an order-driven-market platform that allows users to transact financial securities with each other on a real-time basis. The RIT platform uses custom-designed cases which simulate risks and opportunities associated with particular financial securities. Cases are designed to facilitate learning-by-doing. Participants can use Excel to apply the relevant theory to derive a strategy. Excel models are linked in real time to the simulated market, both to use information from the market in developing a strategy and also to direct decisions back into the market. Like a flight simulator, participants learn how to make effective real-time decisions in a complex environment when the future is uncertain.
